The US Coast Guard rescued a mother and her 15-month-old baby from a flooded house near Charleston, South Carolina.

It was one of hundreds carried out over the weekend after torrential rains triggered dangerous flooding. 

At least eight storm-related deaths have been reported in the Carolinas.

Search and rescue teams are resuming door-to-door searches as more rain is expected in the forecast on Monday.

In the state capital of Columbia, a dam broke, flooding major roads.

People are being advised to boil their water because of numerous main breaks.

Also, several schools and universities were cancelled because of the high water.
