A 29-year-old unlicensed bouncer was today charged with the possession and trafficking of cocaine and ecstasy and kept under arrest.

Casey Anthony Vella, from Qawra, pleaded not guilty to being in possession of and trafficking drugs in the past months. He also pleaded not guilty to doing so 100 metres away from where young people hang out.

The police said yesterday that  the man, who works in a Paceville establishment as a bouncer, was arrested after being found in possession of some 150 grams of cocaine, a number of ecstasy pills and a small amount of mephedrone and cannabis.

The drug was in packets ready for trafficking.

A search at the bouncer's house revealed electric weighing scales, small plastic bags and about 1,000 more ecstasy pills.

This morning, Mr Vella was also charged with working as a bouncer without being in possession of a license.

Prosecuting officer Malcolm Bondin asked for the freezing of Mr Vella's assets. His request was granted.

Michael and Lucio Schriha were defence counsel.
