Mosta came back from a goal down to see off champions Hibernians 4-1 in a stunning encounter at the National Stadium.

Hibs had enjoyed an encouraging start as a solid start as inside the opening minute Marcelo Dias stormed into the area but his firm drive was pushed away by Yenz Cini.

On 17 minutes the Blues appealed for a penalty when Edin Murga was upended in the area by goalkeeper Rudy Briffa but referee Mario Apap waved away their appeals and booked the Bosnian forward.

Hibs were looking short of ideas but ten minutes later they were regaled with an opener when the dithering Tyrone Farrugia was dispossessed by Jorginho who sped into the area and with only Cini to beat, he squared the ball to Jorge who deposited in an empty net.

Farrugia somehow made up for that mistake on 34 minutes when Jorge sped clear and passed the ball to the unmarked Jorginho who was anticipated by the Mosta defender before he could pull the trigger.

But Mosta levelled matters on 38 minutes when they were awarded a free-kick from which Murga’s curler came off the bar and in came Ice Cream Guobadia who stabbed into an empty net.
Three minutes from the break, Jorginho should have restored Hibs lead when he controlled the ball inside the area but he fired wide with only Cini to beat.
Mosta stunned Hibs with a second goal two minutes into the second half when Manolito Micallef’s long pass picked Rodriguez who nipped in between De Gracia Gomes and Soares and hit a rasping drive that flew into the top corner of the net.
On 54 minutes Hibs thought they had equalised when Cini, inexplicably charged out of his goal to anticipate Jorginho who evaded his challenge and picked Jorge who headed into the net. But the ‘goal’ was annulled for offside.
Mosta all but wrapped up the points 19 minutes from time when Murga was upended in the area by Soares and from the spot Ian Zammit drilled the ball past Briffa.
Hibs were in shambles and their misery was futher compounded on 80 minutes when Murga turned past Soares before hitting a curling drive that flew into the top corner of the net.
In his goal celebrations Murga lifted his shirt and was harshly penalised by referee Mario Apap with a second yellow card and was subsequently dismissed.
