Emotional freedom techniques (EFT) therapy gently and safely removes or drastically reduces negative emotional, physical and psychological issues simply by tapping on the face and upper body while focusing on the problem.

This therapy was introduced to Malta by UK psychotherapist Helena Fone, who lives in Gozo and is a world expert in EFT and a Trainer of Trainers.

She is also author of the internationally acclaimed book EFT for Dummies.

Within minutes, feelings of sadness, anger, anxiety and trauma disappear, leaving a logical understanding of the problem and a sense of calm. Psychological and neuro-linguistic programming techniques are also integrated into the process.

There is no licence required to practise EFT. Anyone can be taught how to use it on themselves and some may be eligible to progress to helping others after only a short course.

Fone has trained midwives, teachers, psychologists, doctors, social workers and lay people in Malta to incorporate EFT into their practice. EFT has passed various clinical trials and studies for issues such as phobias, depression and anxiety and has been recognised by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence as a treatment for post traumatic stress.

A one-day Level 1 in the EFT-certified training programme will be held at the Paradise Bay Hotel, Ċirkewwa, on October 25 from 9.30am to 5pm.
