The St Julian’s Choral Group was invited to participate in Malta Day celebrations in the UK.

Malta Day is celebrated on the feast of Our Lady of Victories.

The celebrations included a fair at Westminster Cathedral Hall, during which the choir performed three folkloristic choral works composed by Mro Carmelo Pace: Lapsi, Btajjel and L-Imnarja.

A Mass commemorating the 450th anniversary of Malta’s Great Siege was celebrated at the cathedral. The choir performed the Solemn Mass Assumptione Beatae Mariae Virginis, composed by Mgr Martin Portelli. The 35-member choir was conducted by Pio Dalli.

The main concelebrant was OFM Minister Provincial Richard Stanley Grech, while St Julian’s parish priest Claude Portelli read the gospel.

Mass was attended by Malta’s High Commissioner Norman Hamilton and Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis.

A procession with the statue of Our Lady left the cathedral to the Sacred Heart (Chapel of Ease).

The celebrations ended with a gala dinner at the Kingsway Hall Hotel in Covent Garden.
