Did you know that babies who are carried cry an average of 43 per cent less?

Studies have also shown that physical closeness facilitates your baby’s transition to the outside world and stabilises the baby’s heart rate and temperature.

In other words, babywearing is better for your child during the first formative months than any pushchair can ever be.

It also frees your hands so you can take care of your other children, carry on with your everyday errands or simply enjoy a cup of coffee while your little one sleeps blissfully on your chest.

The multitude of babywearing benefits are well known among health professionals worldwide who recommend to parents safe, ergonomic babywearing to safeguard the health of mother and baby.

The most helpful advice a new mother will ever get for a baby suffering colic is as simple as ‘wear your baby’.

International Babywearing Week is an annual outreach event sponsored by Babywearing International. It consists of a week-long opportunity to celebrate the many benefits of babywearing.

Various events are hosted around the world to raise awareness on parenting practice, which is very much needed and beneficial for both mothers and babies. Malta will be joing the celebrations from today to Saturday.

To kick off International Babywearing Week and celebrate its first anniversary, Babywearing Malta held a small event at Tigné Point, Sliema.

The event included demos of carriers and slings, a sling library, a flash mob and a group photo. All parents with slings, carriers or anyone interested in babywearing were encouraged to attend and children brought along a favourite soft toy or doll and a long scarf and were assisted with wearing their toys. An Ergobaby launch party will be held on Saturday from 11.30am to 1.30pm at Hotel Juliani, St Julian’s.

There will also be a short workshop on babywearing benefits and safety, an Ergobaby carrier demonstration, complimentary snacks and drinks for the first 60 guests and shopping offers.

There will be a raffle and one mother will leave the party with an Ergobaby carrier.
