When in 1974 I was called by the Italian bishops to start the family pastoral work in Italy, providence and the local archbishops blessed me by giving the leadership of the Cana Movement to three dedicated priests, namely Mgr Louis Camilleri, the late Mgr Joseph Buttigieg for Gozo, and until recently, Fr Joe Mizzi.

All three continued with zeal, dedication and intelligence to work with families, at a time when the family is being attacked from all sides.

My thanks go to Fr Mizzi, who now has been called by the Archbishop to become archpriest of Vittoriosa. Knowing Fr Mizzi’s love of and studies on the family, I am convinced he will model his parish on the Church’s teachings of the family.

Many, starting with Cana president Arthur Galea Salamone and his wife Angela, are praying to the Holy Spirit and to the Madonna of Cana, that a worthy, able, charismatic and energetic new priest may continue their work, as the future of the Church in Malta and the world depends on the family.

Please say a prayer with us.
