‘Deep Abyss’ is the title of a talk about the seabed to be delivered by Aaron Micallef on Wednesday at 7.30pm at St James Cavalier’s cinema room, Valletta.

Although it is still more poorly mapped than some planets in the solar system, the ocean floor hosts spectacular, complex, and sometimes colossal landscapes. And this is particularly true for the seabed offshore the Maltese islands.

Micallef will provide an introduction to state-of-art technologies used to explore oceans and revisit seascapes that have been discovered around the Maltese islands in recent expeditions. These include submerged caves, precipitous cliffs, fossilised landscapes, mud avalanches, deep canyons, and ancient mega-tsunami deposits.

This event is part of a monthly series of talks on science subjects organised by non-profit organisation Cafe Scientifique.
