Q: I recently bought two bathrooms from a local supplier. Before placing the order, the seller informed me that all mixers carry a 10-year guarantee. Upon payment, the seller issued receipts but the guarantee is not mentioned or displayed anywhere.
When I spoke to the seller about this I was advised to keep the booklets that came with the mixers’ package as these are the proof of the guarantee.
Do these booklets provide enough proof of the guarantee or should the seller provide me with an official guarantee document?
A: The Consumer Affairs Act stipulates that when a seller offers a commercial guarantee, this should be provided in writing, clearly and legibly.
Since the seller gave you a booklet that states that the mixers carry a 10-year warranty, it should cover you in case any problems crop up.
However, on this booklet there should also be the name and address of the guarantor, i.e., the person responsible for the commercial guarantee.
If the local seller’s contact details are not written on the booklet, you should go back to the seller and ask him to include them.
