The bitter taste of the few final days of holidays is in full swing and this often results in undesirable moods. Now that school days are knocking on the front door, the change back to the normal routine can also leave an emptiness effect in our homes.

Although change is never easy and getting back to a strict routine is not as straightforward as someone may think, especially for children, there are certain practices that you may adopt to facilitate the back to school lifestyle.

The morning ritual

The first important change to your daily schedule is the time you wake up, which is usually the same as your children’s. This often gives way to unnecessary morning conflicts which are not the best preparation for a full day’s work. If you happen to have only one bathroom in your house, drafting a morning bathroom plan for your children is a great idea to help your family get on with your morning needs.

A chaotic situation inside your home is not only a burden to the eye, but is likely to cause confusion on who’s who and eventually ends up in a guessing game

School stuff storage

Another change that school brings with it inside your home is certainly the excessive amounts of books, bags, school uniforms and stationery running around in every corner of the house. This chaotic situation inside your home is not only a burden to the eye, but is likely to cause confusion on who’s who and eventually ends up in a guessing game. If this is an all too familiar situation then you should strongly consider allocating separate storage space for your kids where they can keep their ‘school stuff’.

Silence of the day

Homework time is another addition to students’ daily routines. Without the need of highlighting the importance of this time during the day, it is essential that parents are able to afford the required time and space for their children to complete their daily tasks, in a quiet and comfortable corner of your home. Their bedroom is traditionally the best room for your children to concentrate and work in silence. However, other areas such as the study room and kitchen can also suit this purpose.

Focusing on appearances

School for children is the equivalent of a working job for adults. Since every place has its own etiquette, it is important that children are perfectly groomed and dressed appropriately for school. Children who prepare themselves on their own should be allocated a small area, whether it is in the bathroom or in their bedroom, to groom and dress up for school. Also, it is handy to have a full-sized mirror so that your children can check themselves before walking out in the morning. Sending your children to school full of confidence can help them focus more on their work and less on their wardrobe.

The laundry system

School brings with it the start of new activities such as a new football season, private lessons or scouts. It is important that you have a system in place for your children to put away their laundry in a predefined spot, such as the washroom or bathroom. This lowers the risk of your children ending without their football gear for the next match.

Recharging areas

Many students enjoy watching their favourite TV programme or playing a video game. Parents should plan this out with their children at a time and in a location they can relax when they arrive from school. Make sure the room where the action takes place is not an ironing venue right when they arrive home from school.
