The International Space Station, possibly the pinnacle of human engineering, will be visible from Malta this evening with the naked eye.

The station is expected to be visible around 8.05pm.

Travelling at over 25,000km/hr, it orbits the earth 15 times a day, which means that astronauts aboard the ISS get to see a sunrise and sunset every 90 minutes.

Weighing over 400 tonnes it is the largest artificial satellite ever launched and has hosted space travellers from several different countries. It plays a crucial role in the study of space and every year plays host to several different experiments in physics, biology and chemistry. In future it will provide a comforting pit-stop for longer missions to the moon and Mars.
