Aloysians confirmed their top status in local handball after claiming a Super Cup double on the opening day of the new season.

In the men’s final, Aloysians Von Taine had the better of rivals La Salle Unique 22-18. The story repeated itself in the women’s match as Aloysians Żmerċ beat La Salle Rivareno 27-24.

The early exchanges of the men’s Super Cup clash were balanced and played at a rather slow pace.

As the first half went on, Aloysians went three goals ahead and maintained their lead throughout the first 30 minutes.

After the break, La Salle tried to fight their way back into the game but Aloysians retained their composure.

In the final 10 minutes, Aloysians, the Knock-Out holders, imposed their supremacy to run out 22-18 winners.

Women’s league champions Aloysians Żmerċ began the match on a solid footing as they led 3-1 after the first seven minutes.

La Salle Unique made a bold reaction to take a five-goal advantage by half-time.

But, after the interval, Aloysians were a different lot.

Their fightback brought Aloysians on level terms, 20-20, and thereafter they kept inflicting damage on La Salle’s rearguard.

In the last five minutes, Aloysians established a decisive three-goal advantage for a final 27-24 win.
