A 26-year-old man from Sta Venera was this morning remanded in custody after he pleaded not guilty to the possession of large quantities of cannabis resin and an unspecified amount of cocaine, both not for personal use.

The police found the drugs in the glove compartment of accused Timothy Joseph Agius's car last night.

Mr Agius was also charged with committing the crime within 100 metres of a school, club or any other place frequented by youths.

Lawyer Roberto Montalto was defence counsel.

In a statement earlier today the police said they had been observing the suspect for months.

The drug was divided in eight blocks.
