The call for expressions of interest for a motor race track including the ancillary facilities constituted another attack on ODZ land, AD deputy chairman Carmel Cacopardo said.

He said in a statement this project, which could take up around 800,000 square metres, could only be built on ODZ land.

"Malta and Gozo are to small to sustain such a project. We should instead protect the little ODZ land that is left. Government, unfortunately, is doing exactly the opposite.

"One must also keep in mind all the air pollution from the racing and the training sessions as well as the exaggerated noise pollution coming from the powerful cars driven at great speed.

"This will strongly inconvenience residents who will be unlucky enough to live in the vicinity of the race-track.

"Alternattiva Demokratika hopes this is just one of the many passing nightmares the government is dreaming of in the environmental field," he said.
