Jamie Farrugia (picture) and Matthias Gatt recently represented Malta in the seventh Mediterranean Junior Chess Championship, held in Chania, Crete. A total of 86 players, from Albania, Algeria, Greece, Itay, Lebanon and Malta, took part in the tournament. Farrugia placed a creditable 36th (joint 26th) with five points after three wins, four draws and only two losses. Farrugia claimed third place in the U-16 girls category. Playing in his first international tournament, Gatt was classified 51st (joint 46th) after picking up four points with four wins and five defeats.
