Siggiewi local council said this evening that it would oppose any plans for a motorsport track within the locality.

The council noted that it had been reported that plans were afoot for the track to be laid out in an ODZ site in the area known as San Niklaw, close to Dar tal-Providenza.

The facility would be as large as the whole urban area of Siggiewi.

The council said a motion during which it took its stand against the project was approved by the PN councilors and opposed by the minority Labour councilors.

It said the project would have a huge impact on the quality of life of residents of Siggiewi and Dar tal-Providenza and destroy a large area of agricultural land.

The council urged all would-be developers not to propose to site the track within the confines of Siggiewi, especially in the area known as San Niklaw. It also urged the government to publish all documents related to its recent call for expressions of interest.
