Route buses are being used for private purposes in violation of the licence granted to Malta Public Transport, the Unscheduled Bus Service (UBS) complained this evening.

Malta Public Transport immediately denied the claim.

The UBS, which represents coach owners, called on Transport Malta to clamp down on the abuse and also warned it would take action against entities chartering route buses.

It said the bus operator should be focused on its own problems, notably a shortage of route buses and failure to observe timetables, rather than doing work it was not supposed to do.

Malta Public Transport in a short reply said it was strongly denying the claims by UBS.
