Lazio: Lazio coach Stefano Pioli wants his players to carry a “win at all costs” attitude into their Europa League home game against St Etienne today. The Italians were held to a 1-1 draw at Dnipro in their Group G opener. “Tomorrow’s result will be very important for the group and we want to win at all costs,” Pioli told Italian press yesterday. “We respect our opponents but we need to play like Lazio. If we do, we have the possibility of winning.”

Radoi: Steaua Bucharest manager Mirel Radoi will attend a coaching school in neighbouring Moldova in an attempt to obtain the required licence, Romania’s most successful club has said. Last month Radoi was given a touchline ban in European competition by UEFA until he obtains the required qualifications. However, the 34-year-old former Romania international is not eligible to attend courses organised by the domestic football federation because he failed his final high school exam.

Cole: Boss Ronny Deila confirmed that Carlton Cole has suffered an injury with Celtic but stressed that signing talks are still on-going. The 31-year-old former West Ham striker returned north of the border for a second week’s training in a bid to win a deal with the Scottish champions. Cole picked up a knock at the club’s Lennoxtown training complex on Tuesday.

Volkswagen: The emissions scandal rocking German carmaker Volkswagen will not affect the company’s investment in its Bundesliga club VfL Wolfsburg, sports director Klaus Allofs said yesterday. Europe’s biggest carmaker has admitted cheating in diesel emissions tests in the United States and Germany’s transport minister says it also manipulated them in Europe, where Volkswagen sells about 40 per cent of its vehicles. “If you look at the entire company then the financial involvement (in the club) is minimal,” Allofs told Die Zeit newspaper. “The VfL in turn is more worth to the Volkswagen brand than the actual invested sum. It could play a special role.”

Sacked: Fleetwood have sacked manager Graham Alexander following Tuesday’s 5-1 defeat by Gillingham. The 43-year-old has been at the club since December 2012 but has been dismissed after just two wins this season. The Scot leaves Fleetwood 20th in League One. Alexander guided the team to the third tier for the first time in their history with victory over Burton in 2014 play-off final.
