Embodying Selves project is this month presenting the performance It’s All About My Tea (No Sugar).

This is a devised performance reflecting on the intricate link between emotional well-being and one’s relationship with the body and food.

The performance dates coincide with World Mental Health Day, thus drawing attention to the importance of emotional health in one’s physical well-being and relationship with food; as well as drawing attention to the power of stories and creativity in connecting with oneself and inner healing.

The show, created and performed by dramatherapist Lou Ghirlando, is the final action of the project Embodying Selves which involved a research process where Ghirlando met with participants who wanted to explore their relationship with their body and food through a creative process.

These encounters, as well as Ghirlando’s own personal experience, have led to the choice of creative material and stories related.

The project has followed ethical procedures of consent and confidentiality.

Variations of tea will be woven into the unfolding structure of stories, serving as a metaphor of the choices, mindful or otherwise, that people make in feeding themselves.

The performance, which lasts approximately 40 minutes, will be held in the Studio Theatre of the Manoel Theatre on Friday, October 9, at 5.30pm and on Saturday, October 10, at 7.30pm.

The project is supported by the Malta Arts Fund and the Department of Theatre Studies, School of Performing Arts, University of Malta.
