The advert on Radio Malta announcing the improvement of public transport due to the arrival of more new buses and the introduction of new routes gave people some hope. However, this was very short-lived.
If I am not mistaken, such an advert, which, incidentally, was very frequent, mentioned September 13 as the day on which Mosta was to be one of the lucky routes. On the eve of the big day, we were told there was a postponement because of some disagreement.
Mosta is one of the worst hit localities with regard to public transport. Most of the buses start their journey at Ċirkewwa, Buġibba and other villages in the north of the island. Since these are tourist spots, by the time the buses reach Mosta they are already full to capacity with passengers standing and packed like sardines. It’s very upsetting to realise the bus is full to capacity and you cannot board after waiting for half an hour or more.
Quite some time has passed and, yet, public transport from Mosta to Valletta is the same. Promises are vanishing into thin air. People are being taken for a ride. Public transport is still a fiasco.
