Sometimes, throughout fashion week the clothes out on the street are as good as those on the catwalk and when there’s a Burberry event on the agenda, you can be sure that all the best outfits will be on display.

The weather wasn’t very cooperative and insisted on raining for most of the day but that didn’t stop the street style stars. I spotted a few Burberry pieces obviously, but there was a lot of creativity and individuality in how the outfits were put together. Notwithstanding the rain, suede had a very marked presence.

Back onto the catwalk and next Spring/Summer is looking very interesting indeed

The Burberry show is always a highlight of London Fashion Week, set in the beautiful Kensington Gardens, with some of the most famous faces in the industry sitting in the front row, it’s almost more of an event than a show. The collection for next summer is edgier than what we are used to seeing at Burberry, gone is that sense of grown-up stuffiness and that plaid pattern on everything that many people always associated with Burberry.

In place are younger, fresher concepts such as a gabardine backpack that is sure to be on every A-lister's must have list and gold military detailing that adds an edgy vibe. Some classical, more intricate pieces are still there, there are some beautiful laser-cut dresses that just ooze femininity and elegance. A lovely, strong collection.

Giles Deacon

Giles Deacon is an extremely skilled couture designer, his pieces are stunning and his show is always one of the most anticipated each season. His show had some of the biggest heavyweights in the fashion industry walking in it including Poppy Delevingne, Georgia May Jagger, and Dree Hemingway. As the show progressed, you could hear gasps in the audience as they witnessed the incredible beauty and fine workmanship. For this show, I also visited the Toni&Guy hair team backstage who impressed me as to how well-oiled their whole operation functioned.

Belstaff

At Belstaff, the collection was inspired by the sea itself, by the power of the waves, by boats and nautical elements. In this collection, classical pieces and colours were reinvented through different finishes and details. A white chalky coating was applied to leather and knitwear making them feel modern and slightly imperfect. A water reflection print was used heavily throughout the pieces complemented with elements of transparency. One of my favourite items is a pair of boot sandals with a cutaway heel.
