Malta Enterprise had introduced a grant scheme to help business start-ups.
Economic Affairs Minister Chris Cardona and ME officials said the agency may grant up to €25,000 for a full year to eligible companies.
The incentive forms part of the BStart scheme. It has a budget of €500,000.
The seed funding will be offered to companies where the number of employees does not exceed 50 and the annual turnover is not more than €10 million.
Support is limited to 12 months.
For small start-ups to be considered for the B-Start initiative, they must be engaged in manufacturing, information technology, digital media and communications, research, development and technical innovation, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and life sciences.
Applications will be evaluated against the criteria of innovation and of commercial and technological feasibility.
The B-Start incentive, which is a pilot measure, will run until June 30, 2016.
