Appearance: Cut the Smart Fortwo’s roof off, pop it into a compartment in the boot and hey presto: here’s your Cabrio version. The loss of the roof has meant the addition of extra structural bracing but the cheeky city car’s character is boosted by a million miles of headroom. It’s the sort of thing that existing and potential Fortwo Cabrio buyers will go for. And the open bit is – wait for it – approximately four per cent larger than before... wow!

Prediction: This is all-but ready for the showroom. Don’t expect much to change. If anything, there’s always the chance that some clever so-and-so spots a fundamental flaw with having to stop the car and get out in order to put the roof back on.
