Mazda made a strong statement at this year’s Frankfurt International Motor Show with its unconventional Koeru, a brand-new crossover SUV concept.

Koeru is Japanese for ‘exceed’ or ‘go beyond’ and the concept embodies Mazda’s ambition to deliver value that transcends the ordinary. In doing so, the Koeru exudes power, vitality and an extraordinary level of refinement in a bold rendition of the company’s Kodo – Soul of Motion design philosophy, which provides the stylistic basis for its award-winning model line-up.

The broad proportions and low-leaning cabin generate a sense of speed and volume, creating a formidable presence. While the Kodo signature wing conveys determination, the LED guiding rings evoke the bright, strong-willed eyes of an untamed animal. Highlights on the front and rear fenders, meanwhile, extend towards the large wheels, suggesting powerful legs pounding the earth.

The Koeru’s sleek shapes offer outstanding aerodynamics, optimising the flow of air over the body and stifling underfloor turbulence, details that enhance vehicle stability, especially at high speeds. Special NVH-suppressing technology makes for a smoother and quieter ride.

The Koeru will be equipped with Skyactiv technology and innovative, fuel-efficient powertrains that will be built according to the Mazda’s sports-car tradition. Together, they offer a generous portion of the brand’s hallmark driving fun.
