A wine-pairing event featuring Hugel & Fils wines was organised by Farsons Beverage and Imports Ltd at Tmun in Mġarr, Gozo.

The renowned wines from the Alsace region in France were presented by Hugel’s wine expert David Ling and paired with an outstanding menu created by Tmun chef Paul Buttigieg.

Guests started off with a 2013 Gentil and enjoyed pairings such as grilled sous-vide local octopus, cannellini beans, olives, chorizo and sherry with a 2008 Gewürztraminer Jubilee; seared wild local tuna crusted with pistachios, squid ink arancina, pea and mint purée with a 2010 Pinot Noir; and a trio of desserts matched with Hugel Gewürztraminer Selection de Grains Nobles 1998.

Hugel & Fils was founded in 1639 and is still 100 per cent family-owned and managed by the 12th consecutive generation today.

Hugel wines represented in over 100 countries worldwide, are available at some of the finest establishments in Europe. Virtually all restaurants awarded a three-star rating by the Michelin Guide carry Hugel wines on their lists.

More than half of the 28-hectare estate Hugel owns in Riquewihr are Grand Cru, planted with only the noble grape varieties of Alsace.

The Hugel family was the pioneer of late-harvest Alsace wines and the late Jean ‘Johnny’ Hugel was known in the wine trade as ‘the grand old man of Alsace’ for his work in promoting the region and bringing it to global fame.
