Q: We booked a honeymoon vacation to Greece with a local travel agency. Before booking, we asked if the hotel was of a good standard and were assured it was. When we arrived, we found a low three-star hotel outside the centre, not in a tourist area, as we were told when we booked the holiday.
We complained with the travel agency but they are not replying to our e-mails. What are our rights? Can we also claim compensation for having our honeymoon partly ruined because of this?
A: To claim compensation, you need documentation proving what kind of hotel you were promised. It would also be helpful if you have evidence of the shortcomings of the hotel where you stayed to prove that was different to what you were promised. If you have such documentation, you may claim compensation for the low-standard hotel and for the inconvenience caused.
