Floriana and Tarxien Rainbows took a point each in a 1-1 draw at the Hibs Stadium.

Tarxien started brightly and after three minutes they could have been already in front when Luke Montebello muscled his way into the area before pulling the ball back into the path of the sprinting Carlos Hevia who, however, fired over.

But in their next attempt, the Rainbows struck. Montebello won a free-kick on the edge of the area and Joao Pedro curled a delightful shot that flew into the top corner of the net.

The Greens tried to storm back and on 22 minutes Enrico Chiesa picked Fontanella inside the area but the Italian striker saw his shot parried away by Andrea Cassar.

The Rainbows almost made it 2-0 five minutes from the break but Matthew Calleja Cremona showed great reflexes to deny Montebello.

Floriana were enjoying long spells of possession but were lacking any cutting edge upfront with Tarxien goalkeeper Cassar rarely tested.

Instead it was Tarxien who almost made it 2-0 when Triston Caruana put Danilo clear but the Brazilian was denied by the onrushing Calleja Cremona.

Floriana drew level seven minutes from time when Bruno was harshly adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area in an attempt to block Piciollo’s cross and from the spot Fontanello drilled the ball home.

Tarxien defender Bruno was voted as the BOV Player of the Match.
