The problem of plastic marring the beauty of the Blue Hole in Gozo has been exposed in a new video.

David Jones, director for sustainability strategies of the Plastic Oceans Foundation, dived at the site earlier this year and was shocked to see plastic clinging to the seabed.

"Hundreds of pieces of floating plastic have somehow made their way into the cave where they cover the roof like some bizarre multi-coloured decoration.

"Without sunlight or the action of the waves they will remain in the cave for hundreds of years. Another legacy of our addiction to plastic and our throwaway lifestyles," he said.

Mr Jones said he spoke to diving company Ocean Mysteries Diving and they were planning to try and get together a group of divers to clear up the plastic.
