Renowned actor John Rhys-Davies has declared his undying love for Malta during a visit to the island.

Mr Rhys-Davies, who played the dwarf Gimli in the Lord of the Rings films, told Rene Rossignaud his visit to Malta was helping him seek inspiration for a film script.

The 71-year-old Welsh actor is in Malta for the fifth time, having visited the first time in 1949.

"I love any excuse to come to Malta. I love the history. I love the Maltese people who have an inner strength that have enabled them to survive all these extraordinary things that have happened throughout their history.

Mr Rhys-Davies is in Malta to attend a wedding but said he hoped to return soon to shoot a film once filming facilities are available.

The actor has starred in several blockbusters throughout his career, including Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Living Daylights and King Solomon's Mines.
