Q: I would like to know how the cooling-off period works? Can I return a recently purchased laptop and ask for my money back?

The laptop is still in its original packaging, as I bought it. It was never used since I bought it a week ago. Am I still within my right to cancel the sale and ask for a refund?

A: If the laptop in question was purchased from a shop and not through a distance means of communication, such as online or by telephone, then legally you are not allowed to change your mind about the purchase made and request a refund.

If on the other hand, you made this purchase through distance sale or off-premises, which means that you were not at the trader’s premises when you concluded the purchase of the laptop, then the law gives you 14 days to change your mind and cancel the sale made.
