4. Weep at the greatest love story ever told

Eden Cinemas’ new season of ballet and operas from the Royal Opera House in London starts with the premier of Kenneth MacMillan’s landmark Romeo and Juliet, in celebration of 50 years since its premiere at the Royal Opera House in 1965.

MacMillan’s Romeo and Juliet is choreographed to the emotionally-charged score of musical genius Sergei Prokofiev. The ballet is regarded as an emotional and passionate masterpiece, based around three perfectly-executed pas de deux: the lovers’ first meeting, the famous balcony scene and the overwhelmingly devastating final tragedy when Romeo dances desperately with the lifeless Juliet. Viewers will be transported to a Renaissance-era Verona through Nicholas Georgiadis’ extravagant designs.

Romeo and Juliet screens live on Tuesday at 8.15pm and next Sunday at 3pm at the Eden Cinemas, St Julian’s.
