I am truly surprised by Margaret Camilleri-Pace’s assertion that pigeons can cause some sort of epidemic (August 28).

It is proven that pigeons are no threat to our lives. Many bird experts and doctors have confirmed this.

Among them was Guy Merchant, director of the Pigeon Control Advisory Service (PICAS International).

He stated: “If we believed everything we read in the media about the health risks associated with pigeons, and the farcical propaganda distributed by the pest control industry, we would never leave our homes.

“The fact of the matter is that there is probably a greater risk to human health from eating intensively farmed super-market chicken and eggs, or having contact with domestic pets such as cats, dogs and caged birds, than there is from contact with pigeons.”

So, Camilleri-Pace ought to put her mind at rest that pigeons in Sliema will not cause “some sort of epidemic”.

Hands on heart, doesn’t she believe that we humans – and not the pigeons – are causing all this pollution that is destroying our planet?

The world was created for humans as well as for creatures.
