A video posted to a social media website showed the last known surviving search and rescue dog which assisted search teams after the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York celebrating her 16th birthday.
'Bretagne' was one of the 100 dogs deployed to take part in 9/11 search operations in New York, her first deployment with her owner Denise Corliss.
"We were there to try to find survivors and when our task force arrived in Ground Zero, I just couldn't believe the magnitude of it. And then I looked down to her and she seemed stoke and ready to work," Denise Corliss said.
In the video, Bretagne is seen being greeted at a hotel in New York and eating a gourmet burger as part of her room service, before leaving for a walk at the Hudson River Park.
Bretagne is then seen exploring and opening her numerous presents, including a donation check and a tasty cake, with the help of her owner.
"When we deployed to some of the disasters, what I didn't anticipate is the role that they take on as a therapy dog. It provides an opportunity for people to have support from the dog and comfort from a dog in a real difficult environment," Corliss said in the video narrating her dog's birthday celebrations.
Bretagne turned 16 on August 25, ahead of the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attack in New York.
After being posted to a social media website on September 9, the video become a viral hit, receiving over 1,500,000 views.
