Ingram Bondin needed a full page to justify vilification (September 9) but missed out being unbiased. I am morally against any vilification, from whatever source or on whatever subject.

Recently our law courts fined a foreigner for insulting our President by calling her “bitch”. I agree with the court.

People in authority should be respected as otherwise the anarchy already present will gain the upper hand.

But for the sake of argument, suppose he insulted her by using disparaging remarks about her family? Suppose the wife, daughter or mother of the Prime Minister is insulted in the most vile and obscene way?

On the same basis of equal rights, democracy and fair justice, why should my heavenly mother be insulted just to satisfy some false ego?

I implore our politicians to be very careful before they jump into the deep end. This attitude has been tried in other countries in the past and eventually it failed. This is not democracy. Free speech must never include vile and obscene insults.

Will the politicians remove the libel and slander law? If not, why should not the same safeguard be given to religious personalities?

The agnostics and atheists are not requested to believe in God; and should let others do so without any hindrance. As it is, they want freedom of expression but are dead keen to impede others from following their faith.

Malta, like many countries, is rushing down a steep amoral slope into complete anarchy. There is no need for this.

True democracy rests on its own merits.

Leave all religions alone.

And having said this, any religion in Malta must ensure the rights of others, especially of its women followers, as women are not the property or slaves of their husbands!
