A man who six years ago was convicted of involuntary homicide was this afternoon jailed for six weeks and fined €2,000 after driving over a police officer's foot yesterday.

Adrian Bianchi, 38, of Qormi, was accused of negligent driving, being in possession of cocaine, insulting, threatening and disobeying police officers, slightly injuring a police officer, being in possession of tools used to break-in and relapsing.

The case happened early yesterday morning in Qormi.

Mr Bianchi was stopped by three officers from the Rapid Intervention Unit in Triq il-Ġerrejja, Marsa slightly after midnight.

As soon as the officers switched on their beacon lights and stopped in front of his car, the driver, who was alone, reversed towards Triq l-Istallel.

On seeing this, the police car driver tried to block the road while the two other officers jumped out of the car and approached the suspect.
The suspect drove in the direction of the officers and over the foot of one of them. The injured officer continued to run after the suspect and the other one jumped back into the police car which followed the suspect through Triq is-Serkin, Triq it-Tiġrija and Triq Manuel Dimech, Qormi.

In Triq Manuel Dimech, he was seen throwing a bag with the drug out of the window.

He eventually stopped on his own and got out of his car but continued to disobey police orders and later threatened the officers in the police station.

There was no request for bail and he pleaded guilty.

In 2009, Mr Bianchi was was jailed for six years and fined €7,000 after being found guilty of involuntary homicide.

Then 32, he had sold drugs to Jason Sammut, 24, and his friend Leon Madden who were both found unconscious by Mr Sammut's mother, Carmela. Mr Sammut had been certified by the ambulance's doctor.

Mr Bianchi appeared in front of Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona.
