Investment in the Armed Forces’ Maritime Wing is set to reach €10 million by the end of the year, Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said today.

Speaking at the inauguration of a new €1.7 million fuelling facility at the Haywharf base, Mr Abela said the government was investing heavily in national security.

The new facility includes a subterranean storage silo, pumping equipment, fire extinguishing equipment and a number of new vehicles. The works were 80 per cent EU funded.

The €10million investment will include a new helicopter pad as well as the large rapid deployment facility recently erected at Haywharf.
