The Smithsonian National Zoo released new photos yesterday of its new panda cub.

The photos show the cub's body markings becoming increasingly distinct. He looks more like the adults every day, zoo keepers said.

The cub weighed 881.5 grams on Monday.

The cub now weighs more than twice what he did 10 days ago, when he weighed in at 287.5 grams, according to the zoo's Twitter posting.

"The cub was visible on the panda cams and sleeping for much of the day, which is normal for a cub his age. Keepers noticed that he sleeps with his paw over his eyes," an email sent by the Smithsonian Zoo said.

The cub is one of two giant pandas born on August 22 to Mei Xiang, a top tourist draw in the US capital. The smaller of the cubs died last week of pneumonia and the zoo said an examination showed the surviving panda was doing well.
