Having cleared the entire distance of England and Wales, Hilary Galea-Lauri, 50, a partner at KPMG, has now started the last leg of his cycling challenge in Scotland.

He is cycling the traversal of the whole length of Britain (covering some 1,600km) between its two extremities – Lands End in the southwest and John O’groats in the northeast – raising funds for Inspire. So far, he has collected €8,000 of his set €10,000 target.

His trip has seen him scale altitudes of 7,000ft on any one day, with gradients as high as 16 per cent, besides navigating through difficult terrain.

In his own words: “One never knows what the day ahead will bring with it. After all, a challenge of this sort is an outdoor activity with the elements at times working against you. It requires, above all, a resolute mindset to do what one needs to get through the day, rest the night and set off the next morning with no rest days.”

Donations can be made online via www.inspire.org.mt or by sending an SMS, with ‘Hilary’ in the text, to 5061 8926 (€6.99) or 5061 9215 (€11.65).
