Mosta found little difficulty in overcoming the weak challenge of St Andrew’s and maintain their perfect start to the league trek.

The Blues may not have produced a vintage performance but they still possessed too much quality for a Saints side that were again undone by poor defensive play which ultimately ended any hopes they might have had of avoiding a third straight defeat.

Edin Murga had an excellent start in a Mosta shirt as he was behind his team’s best play and crowned his day with a well-taken goal.

The Bosnian striker was drafted straight into the starting formation at the expense Saviour Fidelis who had netted in his team’s previous two matches.

Bobby Frederick made his first start ahead of fellow Nigerian Frederick Abel while Edile Micheletti was also promoted to the first XI at the expense of Ryan Grech.

St Andrew’s made four changes as Clyde Cumbo was preferred to Nick Ghio while Michael Johnson started ahead Mariglen Sehitaj in defence. Dale Camilleri and Kieran Nwoko were also handed a start ahead of Nicky Vella Petroni and Michael Grima respectively.

Mosta dominated possession at first but it was the Saints who almost struck on seven minutes.

Joseph Farrugia pounced on a poor clearance by Mosta goalkeeper Omar Borg but his lob was cleared off the line by Tyrone Farrugia. Nwoko was first to the rebound but his effort was blocked by Borg.

Mosta responded a minute later when Murga sped into the area but his rising shot finished just over.

The Blues were gifted with an opener on 27 minutes when goalkeeper Diego Rossetto failed to hold Ian Zammit’s corner with the ball finishing in the back of his net.

The goal eased Mosta’s nerves and before half-time Frederick came close but his shot on the turn was blocked by Rossetto.

On the restart, Mosta almost doubled their lead when from a Zammit free-kick Chukwide’s follow-on shot was blocked by Johnson and Murga saw his attempt at goal coming off the upright.

St Andrew’s finally threatened on 58 minutes but Nwoko’s shot on the turn was easily dealt with by Borg.

Mosta all but killed off the match on 66 minutes. Murga ran to reach Falzon’s pass, turned past Rossetto before pushing the ball into the net.

There was still time for a third Mosta goal when late on Murga was quick to release substitute Fidelis who planted the ball into the net.
