Imagine Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Bats!
Nathan Adams is a young scientist who, having taken his first trip to Indonesia when he was a teenager, fell in love with working in nature, building an expertise in bats and their habitats. Besides lecturing, traveling the world, and doing what he loves, Nathan now wants to encourage young people who are interested in nature and the sciences and experience first-hand working with animals in their natural habitats.

Nathan believes that applying what you already study in class and working alongside professional scientists out in the field will help young people discover for themselves what they truly want to focus on doing one day.

Operation Wallacea has already been taking university students and interested young scientists to bases across the world - from Indonesia, to Madagascar, and Honduras - allowing them to work on real projects alongside professionals.

As the organisation's manager, Nathan now wants to encourage even younger people - 6th form students - to join such trips and experience working in a professional scientific environment.

Meet two 6th form students and their teacher who will be going on the expedition to Transylvania, Romania, next year. Learn about why this trip is a big opportunity for them and why government as well as the private sector have to come to the fore and support such initiatives and find financial means to entice more young people to get out of their classrooms and learn through real-life experiences.
