The official opening of the Academic Year 2015-2016 at the Augustinian Institute will take place on October 2.

The academic programme this year will be mainly focusing on four study units. The first is called ‘Augustine For All’.

The second comprises the ‘Annual Saint Augustine Lecture’, which this year shall be delivered by Mgr Henri Teissier, Archbishop Emeritus of Algiers on October 30.

The third study unit will consist of the Lectio Augustini. Various chosen texts shall be connected with the dominant theme of this academic year, namely religion and secularism.

And, finally, the last part of the curriculum is the ‘Philosophy For All’ study unit, which will delve deeper into ancient philosophy, Neoplatonism, Christian Neo-platonism and the philosophy of Augustine of Hippo’s Cassiciacum Philosophical Dialogues of 386/387.

The ‘Augustine For All’ course takes place between October 2 and December 10. The Lectio Augustini commences on January 22 and ends on March 11. The ‘Philosophy For All’ course starts on October 8 and goes on till November 26 for the first semester. The second semester is scheduled to run between January 21 and March 10.

If any readers are particularly interested in the relationship between religion and secularism, taking Saint Augustine as a tenable reference point in this lively and intriguing debate, why don’t they follow a course at the Augustinian Institute this year?
