The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) has approved an application for the setting up of an indoor Olympic standard air pistol and air rifle shooting range within the facilities of the Association of the Maltese Arms Collectors and Shooters in Tigne' Point.

The association said the range will be among the most advanced on the island, with modern facilities including electronic scoring systems.

"This positive development shall help the association achieve its aims to promote the highest standards in sports shooting in Malta," it said.

"Maltese sports shooters have won the highest honours and medals for individual sports in international competitions, and the potential to extend this positive trend is supported by this new sports facility."

The association said it was backing other sports shooting organisations in calling for a national shooting range that will accommodate all sport shooting disciplines.
