Intrepid cyclist Hilary Galea-Lauri has started the last leg of a 1,600km charity fund-raising bike ride that will see him cover the whole length of Britain from Land’s End in Cornwall to John o’Groats at the northernmost tip in Scotland.

The 50 year-old, a partner at KPMG, has crossed the border to Scotland after having cycled through Wales and England.

He is hoping to complete the whole distance within 12 days, raising funds for Inspire Foundation. He has already raised €8,000 of his €10,000 target.

His trip so far has seen him scale altitudes of some 7,000 feet on any one day with gradients as high as 16%, besides navigating through difficult terrain.

"One never knows what the day ahead will bring with it. After all, a challenge of this sort is an outdoor activity with the elements at times working against you. It requires, above all, a resolute mindset to do what one needs to do to get through the day, rest the night and set off the next morning with no rest days," he said.

Donations to support Hilary and ultimately Inspire can be done online via www.inspire.org.mt or by sending an SMS with 'Hilary' in the text, to :
