Neptunes and Malta player Steve Camilleri will be playing for Serie A1 side CC Ortigia in the coming season.
The player finalised this engagement with the new team some days ago and left Malta yesterday to start training with his new team-mates.
Camilleri, 28, had requests from Sori, Florentia and Roma, other Italian top division sides, but finally he opted to join the team from Syracuse.
Ortigia have strengthened their team with the signing of three foreign players. The other two are Damian Danilovic, a former European champion with Montenegro, and Blagoje Ivovic. He joined the Sicilians from third-placed Sport Management Verona who finished top in Malta’s Len Euro Champions League group yesterday.
This will be the Maltese player’s ninth consecutive season with a foreign team, a venture which saw him ending as top-scorer several times.
Camilleri first joined Partizan Belgrade of Serbia after which he moved to RN Bogliasco where he stayed there for six years.
In 2014/2015 he joined the Sicilian team, Sette Scogli, before his latest move to Ortigia.
Meanwhile, Sirens player Edward Aquilina has re-joined Sliema, the team he started his career with.
In the season just over, Aquilina revived his scoring form with the team from St Paul’s Bay, ending up as their top scorer with 28 goals and finishing as the second best scorer overall among the Maltese players.
