An Albanian man was today jailed for six months after admitting to having tried to enter Malta illegally with a false Bulgarian identity card.

Luan Demiri, 22, pleaded guilty to having been in possession of a false document and having made use of it to enter Malta illegally. He was arrested at Malta International Airport on Saturday.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit jailed him for six months.

Police Inspector Darren Buhagiar prosecuted while lawyer Simon Micallef Stafrace was legal aid.

The man is expected to be deported once he has served his term.
