• A blood donation session will be held at the Gozo General Hospital today from 8am to 1pm.

• The feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel will be celebrated today at Xlendi. Gozo Bishop Mario Grech will lead a pontifical Mass at 10am at Xlendi chapel. Acquatic sport activities will be held from 3.15 to 6.30pm, including the traditional game involving a greasy pole (gostra). Solemn vespers will be sung at 6.30pm led by Munxar parish priest Michael Said. A procession with the statue of Our Lady, starts at 7pm, accompanied by Santa Margherita Band. It will end with the antiphon and the sacramental blessing.

• In preparation for the feast of Our Lady of the Nativity (Marija Bambina) in Xagħra, horse races will be held today at 8am on the main road from Victoria to Xagħra. At Xagħra parish church, Bishop of Juticalpa, Honduras, Joe Bonello will celebrate a solemn pontifical Mass at 9.45am, and collegiate chapter treasurer George Farrugia will lead a solemn concelebration at 7pm. Coadjutor Bishop of Tripoli George Bugeja, will lead a solemn pontifical Mass tomorrow at 8.30am. The Great Seige and the WWII siege will be re-enacted in Victory Square at 10am. Gozo bishop Mario Grech will lead vespers at 6pm and will preside over the solemn pontifical translation with the relic and Mass at 7pm. A fireworks display synchronised to music will be held at 8.45pm at Nuffara Hill. It may be watched at the end of September 8 Avenue. On Tuesday, Bishop Grech will lead a pontifical concelebrated Mass at 9am, with the participation of the cathedral and collegiate chapters. Parish priest Michael Camilleri will deliver the panegyric. Mro Vincenzo Bugeja’s Mass A Maria Immacolata will be performed by Sliema’s Jesus of Nazareth choir, under the direction of Can. Salv Galea. The Beland and Precursor bands will perform marches in the streets at 11am. A procession with the statue of Our Lady, led by Bishop Bugeja and accompanied by Victory Band, will start at 7.30pm, while Leone Band will perform a concert at Victory Square. Festivities close with marches by the Victory Band at 10.30pm.

• The Gozo Museum of Archaeology, the Folklore Museum, the Gozo Nature Museum, Ta’ Kola Windmill and Ggantija Temples will be open for free on Tuesday.

• Il-Fergha Ewkaristika (Għawdex) will hold an hour of adoration on Thursday from 9 to 10am at Our Lady of Pompeii church, Victoria, preceded by the reciting of the rosary at 8.45am.

• The Minions will be screened at Don Bosco oratory cinema, Victoria, on Saturday at 4 and 6.30pm on the occasion of Children Cinema Day.

• The diocesan Eucharistic Movement will hold a prayer evening at Savina church, Victoria, on Saturday at 8.30pm, followed by Mass at midnight.

• A conference entitled ‘Redefining theatre communities: Community perspectives in contemporary theatre-making’ will be held by the University of Malta’s Department of Theatre Studies and New Tides Platform (UK) on September 14 and 16 at the University’s Gozo Campus, Xewkija.

• Schola Cantorum Jubilate choir is holding a course in music theory and vocal training for youths and adults. Sessions start in mid-October. To register, e-mail info@scjchoir.com or call 7905 5207 by October 2.
