Following the earthquake felt locally on July 30, at least six more quakes struck during August in the same area, very close to Malta’s southern coast (inset map, red stars). These earthquakes had a magnitude of less than two. No felt reports were submitted to the University of Malta’s Seismic Monitoring Research Group ( http://seismic.research.um.edu.mt ). Two stronger earthquakes farther away towards the south of Malta were registered on August 10 and 31. Seismicity in the Mediterranean and across the globe was relatively normal – moderate to strong earthquakes took place at known seismically active areas.
