The University of the Third Age (U3A), which forms part of the University of Malta, has announced its programme of lectures for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Each study unit comprises eight two-hour lectures delivered on the following subjects: Nutrition and dietetics for the elderly, by Mario Caruana; Classical and operatic music appreciation, by Peter Paul Ciantar; Il-politika u s-soċjeta maltija, by Michael Briguglio; Democracy and fundamental human rights, by Austin Bencini; The evolution of the EU in the Greek experience, by Stephen Calleya; Il-lingwa Maltija: x’futur għandha, by Olvin Vella; Malta and the Order of St John, by E. Buttigieg; Medieval arts and architecture, by Charlene Vella; Ageing: a sociological perspective, by Joseph Troisi; Notarial issues in Malta, by Joe Cilia; La Divina Commedia: a selection of cantos with Maltese explanation, by Joseph Brincat; Reading the present situation in the light of the Scriptures, by Fr Renè Camilleri; Il-kursari f’Malta, by Liam Gauci; Aspects of Maltese history and law, by Ray Mangion; Contemporary issues in Malta, by Fr Joseph Ingaunez; Political philosophy, by Joe Friggieri; Ħarsa lejn Malta llum, by Oliver Friggieri; The Great Siege of Malta, by Vincent Zammit; Maltese social artists, by John Sare; The Maltese legal system, by Kevin Aquilina; Id-drama fil-ħajja tagħna ta’ kuljum, by Marica Mizzi; Pension reform in Malta, by Carl Camilleri and Godwin Mifsud; Introduction to Greek society, by Timothy Gambin; Physiotherapy for older people, by Tonio Agius; Understanding dementia, by Anthony Scerri; Development of Malta’s fortifications, by Vincent Zammit; and Maltese artists, by Charlene Vella.

The programme starts on October 5. Lectures will be held from 9 to 11am from Monday to Thursday at the Floriana centre, on Thursdays at the Cottonera resource centre, Vittoriosa, and on Fridays at the Għajnsielem day centre. Lectures will also be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 7pm at the Sliema centre. A copy of the programme will be sent on registration and is displayed on the noticeboard.

People interested in attending lectures may submit applications as from September 14 from 9 to 11am at the U3A office at the Catholic Institute, Floriana.
