I have recently returned from Malta, which I had visited six times in the past.

Each time I visit I look for a friend of mine who came to live in Malta, in the Valletta area, I think, in the late 1960s or early 1970s, and could never find her.

Nobody I spoke to in the area or in Sliema, Buġibba and St Paul’s Bay knew who she was.

Her name is Elizabeth Blair and she worked in the same factory (Carrick’s) as I did. We were really good friends and kind of sweet to each other.

Elizabeth was from the Garngad area in Glasgow and I was from the Springburn area. The factory we worked in, where I was foreman, was in North Wallace St in Townhead, Glasgow.

I am 69 so she would be in her early 60s now.

Perhaps a reader will recognise her name and get in touch with me through this newspaper.
