Fifty year old Hilary Galea Lauri is currently in the UK attempting to cover a 1,600km bike ride in aid of Inspire.

Mr Galea embarked on his challenge on from Land’s End in the farthest south-westerly point of Great Britain and is now in Wales.

The terrain so far has been extremely hilly with some 16 per cent gradients and climbs of over 7,000 feet in one day.

Such routes require a great deal of confidence in one's ability to handle a bike, as well as resilience to persevere despite the obstacles that occur.

Yesterday, Mr Galea Lauri experienced a snapped chain ring which threw him off his bike. He missed a turning due to road works and had to face a punishing long detour to get back on route.

He is cycling with terrible headaches a toothache and numb fingers due to cold winds and long hours on the bike.

However, he is in good spirits and motivated in the knowledge that people under the care of Inspire Foundation would be benefiting from this trip.

Donations have reached €7,000. "With €3,000 to reach our €10,000 target, I'm confident generosity will prevail," Mr Galea Lauri said.

Donations can be made via www.inspire.org.mt or by sending an SMS with Hilary in the text to 50618926 (€6.99) or 50619215 (€11.65).
